Melbourne – Preparations are in full swing for the 19th edition of the Nepali Association of Victoria’s (NAV) signature event, the NAV Cup, slated to commence on January 14th and culminate with the final match on March 10th, marking the onset of New Year 2024.

With over a dozen cricket clubs poised to participate, the Doneth Reserve Reservoir has been selected as the venue for this thrilling competition.

Continuing their steadfast support from the previous year, Maximax Education and Migration Services will proudly return as the main sponsor for this year’s NAV Cup. NAV President Premraj Upreti confirmed Maximax’s role as the primary sponsor for this edition.

In a landmark move to elevate this year’s NAV Cup, NAV sealed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nepali Cricket Association (CAN) in a ceremony witnessed by the Australian Embassy in Nepal last November. The MoU, signed by NAV President Prem Upreti and Secretary Alok Paudel in Kathmandu, underscores the commitment to honor Nepali players and raise funds for CAN, fostering stronger ties between the Nepali Cricket Association and Nepali Cricket in Victoria.

Anticipation looms as the tournament promises not just the coveted NAV Cup trophy and medals for the winners but also substantial cash prizes. President Upreti hinted at an increased cash reward for this year’s champions, with further details set to be revealed soon.

In the previous edition, the Farwest Hunters claimed victory in a thrilling match against Nare Kings at TW Park in Preston, securing the 18th NAV Cup trophy by a margin of three wickets in a competition featuring 12 groups.

The rising Nepali community in Melbourne has spurred the establishment of sports clubs, igniting a newfound fervor for competitive sports within the community.
